THE PERSON: a couple with an empty nest and a large extended family scattered across the globe wished to transform what had been for years a second home, where three generations gathered, into their primary residence. The core challenge was blending the contents of the midcentury home they were leaving behind with the historic character of the New England farmhouse.

THE nidu: the house was repurposed as a primary home and partially remodeled to adapt the kitchen and main bedroom for full time use. It remains a place where the couple and their extended family gather, so it was redesigned for comfort and togetherness. Pieces from all over the world capture the couple’s history and aesthetic.

THE IMPACT: the peaceful and welcoming interiors are furnished with the couple’s midcentury modern collection, artisan works from New England, and objects from other places they have called home. The new design holds the historic architectural details in harmonious dialogue with modern furniture and art. The result is a functional, comfortable, beautiful and cosmopolitan home.
